The AMAZING Shannell McMillan and the Path4Teens Program

Path4Teens: On Mission to Graduate

Shannell McMillan has been busy for several years planting seeds, watering them and watching them sprout through efforts like Avalon High School and Sharefest.  Her amazing passion and giftedness with the Path4Teens Program is stretching across the US from Los Angeles to Boston.  She is bridging the miles and the gap for teens who need a hand up and a second chance.  Through her networking with the Los Angeles Police Department, Long Beach Police Department and the Boston Police Department she is bringing the Path4Teens Program to schools and youth leadership and development programs on both coasts.

Shannell just completed her third year of Path4Teens at Avalon Continuation High Schoolin Wilmington, CA as part of Sharefest’s Youth Development Academy (YDA).  Graduation rates after just two year at Avalon High School increased by 300% and API scores by 49%.   In January, Shannell will partner with Sharefest at Cherry Tree Continuation High School in Carson, CA, while continuing her work with Avalon HS in Wilmington, CA.
In addition to the work with Sharefest, Shannell has partnered with the Long Beach Police Department’s Youth Services Division and was part of their summer pilot program to bring a 7 week Mandatory Youth Leadership Academy (YLA) to At-Risk Youth in the Long Beach Community. Due to the success of this program and the transformation of the students the Long Beach Police Department has decided to expand it’s efforts adding an additional 7 week YLA course so that more students are able to participate in 2012.   Recently, the Los Angeles Police Department in South East LA/Watts partnered with the Housing Authority of the County of Los Angeles (HACLA)to bring transformation to their local community.  The 30 police officers selected from 400 applicants to work closely with the community will be trained in either Path4Kids, Path4Teens or Path4Adults by Shannell so that they may empower and equip the youth of South East Los Angeles to bring lasting and positive change to their communities.

In addition to her work on the west coast, Shannell has been traveling to the East Coast where her connections with the Boston Police Department have opened doors with local Boys and Girls Clubs, and private schools in the greater Boston Area and surrounding communities.  Eighty (80) young ladies from the Nazareth Academy in Wakefield, sponsored by the Boston Police Runners Club, will participate in Path4Teens on Decemeber 14th & 15th, 2011.  Recently administration and teaching staff participated in The Four Elements of Success Workshop during a teacher’s retreat  and are ready to excite, ground, transform and release their students to live their mission and and fulfill their visions for the future.   While in Boston, Shannell caught the running bug and joined the 2012 Boston Run/Laugh/Smile team and shared her passion for the youth of Boston.  Her new team-mates were impressed with the results and transformation Path4Teens brings and committed to using the Boston Marathon to raise $25,000.00 to support the efforts of The Path4Teens New England chapter established in November of 2011.   Charlestown Against Drugs(C.H.A.D.) has also agreed to support Shannell’s Path4Teens work within the local Charlestown Boys and Girls Club in the spring of 2012.

Path4Teens to the Nations

We are so excited about how the Path4Teens is making advancements to the Nations. Pioneer Circuits CEO, Mr Jim Lee, has developed a team that has been using the Path4Teens Program in the Santa Ana and Long Beach, California schools. In 2009 he and his team also extended this program with one of their contacts in Cambodia. The acceptance was overwhelmingly positive. He and his team began working closely with our organization to translate the teen workbook in the primary language and incorporated pictures from the students that experienced the program. Their recent return trip in March was even more impacting. They will now return this month to meet with government officials and ministers of education in order to determine how to move this life changing program for all their schools. Mr Lee shares in the video below. We are encouraged and highly support his efforts and vision with Path4Teens.
Blessings as you lead and serve’

INGYR COLEMAN, Columbus Ohio. Path Licensed Member 4.11.10

I am a single mother of one boy and one girl, I have a BA in Social Psychology and my current position is an AmeriCorps Program Officer.  I have been with this organization for 10 years and enjoy the aspect of helping organizations provide community service through AmeriCorps members.  In my spare time I run around with my children to their activities and have currently started getting in shape through working out.  Since turning 40, I began to re-evaluate my life to understand what God really wants me to do.    Coaching came up when I was watching an episode of “What not to Wear” (one of my favorite shows) and I heard the participant say that she was a Life Coach.  I had never heard that term before and that started my research to understand the field, and that lead me to Jesus, Life Coach by Laurie Beth Jones.  After reading that book I decided that this was the program that God lead me to.  Thanks Laurie for hearing from God, obeying and creating a great way to help me or anyone with their mission for life and work.

INGYR AND CINDY BECOME LICENSED IN THE PATH AND PATH4TEENS

CINDY FARMER, SPRINGFIELD OHIO.  4.11.10  PATH4TEENS LICENSED MEMBER

Cindy is an elementary school teacher and the wife of a pastor.  She has worked in the public schools for years and has found an increased desire year after year, that has sparked her heart when it comes to teens.  She feels that she has a great rapport with teens and wants to make a difference in the lives of teens in her community.  She believes that many teens today are very talented but seem to have no purpose or focus.  She feels that they get into situations and make poor choices because they do not see or have alternative plans to keep them on track.  She really has a desire to make an impact in the life of her grandson and his generation as well.  She looks forward to begin using the materials as soon as possible.  Cindy is also completing a Life Coach Training program and will have that wrapped up in May.  She is looking forward to the summer to begin bringing more focus to the work behind the Path4Teens.

I continue to be in awe!

A story that must be told…

At 1:30 am on the morning of January 1, 2010, my husband’s phone rang…tragic news was received and phone calls began…the very first phone call was to Suzy. I looked up my contact list half groggy and sobbing like a baby to find “Suzy’s” phone number. I said it out loud so Mark, my husband, could dial it from his phone. “Suzy” answered on the other end and Mark proceeded to inform her of the tragic news of his little 26 year old sister being killed in a car wreck.  The person on the other end was groggy as well and stunned into silence only for them both to realize the “Suzy” that was on the other end, was not the right “Suzy”.  Mark threw the phone at me in total despair that he had exposed himself and this news to the wrong person. I got on the phone only to realize it was a long lost and dear friend that never would have heard this news otherwise. Suzy sent her condolences and asked permission send out prayer requests! “PLEASE”, I said!  No one slept that night in our household even though we did try…so as soon as the sun poked its head up I got out of bed and got on the computer so I could begin to send out prayer requests. As soon as I got on Facebook there were already messages in my inbox from people that “Suzy” had already contacted! OK, so that is huge…a friend who was “accidentally” called and informed of tragic news was already on a prayer chain mission!

I continued to get emails from Suzy through the tragedy and she and her husband and another long lost couple friend of ours showed up at Mark’s little sisters funeral. Not that I wouldn’t have expected them to, but to see their faces was a TOTAL delight! It had been several years since we had seen each other or talked until this time.  The history behind Suzy’s and my relationship is amazing as well.  She and I share an experience in life that many women face and we were blessed to be able to walk through part of the fire together and both have come out on the other end simply more beautiful as a result!

Here is the AWE part…Suzy and I are chatting more often and the more we reconnect, we are realizing how GOD TOTALLY PLANNED THIS…a big fat duh right! :)  She and I have similar stories AND similar dreams and aspirations! It is becoming more evident as we communicate how God wants to use US and OUR STORIES together for HIS GLORY!  Neither of us know how or why yet, and at the same time, we both are excited to be on the ride!  We chat about our missions, our visions, and our hearts for God!  I can pretty much guarantee, had it not been for the phone call, I wouldn’t have reached out to Suzy on my own!  Had we not reconnected we would not be rekindling not only a friendship but a depth of relationship which I treasure and the sharing of our hearts and our love of our God!

All this to say…I continue to be in AWE of how God orchestrates our lives when we live ON PURPOSE for HIM!  AND how ALL things are meant for good! ALL things are in HIS control and ALL things have PURPOSE!!!  I am more and more confident each day of these TRUTHS!
