10 Tips to Help Build Rest
Ten Tips to Help Build Rest into Your Schedule
by Laurie Beth Jones
Check out the short list for building rest into your schedule. Let Renewal surprise you.
1. Book meetings with God on the calendar for soul-care time. Treat it as if he were your most important client (because he is).
2. Do as Jesus did and row away from the crowds. You don’t always have to be on duty. He wasn’t.
3. Listen to worship songs and classical music to restore your soul.
4. Watch a kitten take a nap. Realize how cute you think it is. Realize that God would think it were cute if you took a nap, too.
5. When you need to take a short break, put up a Do Not Disturb sign, and reinforce it.
6. Avoid negative news before bedtime. Spend those precious minutes reflecting on your blessings and your intentions for the next day.
7. Take a mental-health day. Don’t wait to call in sick. Call in “well.”
8. Book your sleep time as a primary health-and-wellness issue, not as a medal for endurance for going without.
9. Ask yourself if you would want your brain surgeon to sleep as little as you do, and then respond accordingly.
10. Imagine that you have already passed on to the next life. I do this frequently, which allows me the perspective to know that things can, could, and will continue without me.
Why not enjoy the life you have now? The rest you have now?
Have you used any of these to build rest into your schedule? What are some other ways you find rest and renewal?
